This is the A-Number-One Stupidest Thing I Have Seen as an Effect of Katrina: Cancel Mardi Gras?

This is just plain old spite. Or stupidity. The kind of entitlement stupidity that thinks money comes out of nowhere and that doing things to make or acquire money is somehow innately evil. The kind of liberal anti-capitalism that makes no sense.

If anything Katrina's aftermath should be teaching people some basic economic lessons. If no one is buying anything in New Orleans, the city is dead. Commerce makes it live, because it brings people, tourism, activities, culture.

This is what it really means when they say that for evil to triumph it is only necessary that good men do nothing. If there is nothing good happening, there will only be banality and misery and poverty.

The guy who said this would be a "kick in the face" to poor people is just really galling. This is how poor people in New Orleans get along: by serving the beer, selling the beads, and cleaning up the trash of Mardi Gras.

I couldn't believe the things people were saying about how ungrateful, demanding, helpless and stupid the refugees were. If this was the example they were getting, no wonder. I'm going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans now, if I have to sleep in the car. Who is with me (and can you pitch in with me for a van? :) ??
