Tax filing -- Taking steps

I've been procrastinating in what turns out to be a rather masochistic way. I've been terrified of talking to this tax preparer over the phone (even though he's the father of a friend, and completely recommended), because I must be a loser who can't get her taxes done. So finally, today, I called him up, confessed that I had no idea what to do, and what are we now, 8 days from the filing deadline?

He said, Yeah, I can see how that would be confusing, are you filing single? Dependents? Do you need to file both Georgia and Louisiana? Why don't you give me your mailing address and SSN and I'll get this extension filed for you? And he was all soothing and take-charge in a good way, as opposed to the pat-the-silly-female-on-the-head way. He's so getting paid.
