The Log

Thursday, I went to the consuite and helped out for about three hours. Got my badge, started my hours sheet, got instructions.

Went to Fire of Brazil with Alex and company.

The pool was closed, so I checked to see that Asprin got in, then went home to bed.

Friday, I Got up Very EARLY and went to the consuite and worked for 6.5 hours.

Went to lunch at Dailey's with Alex and company.

Checked into the Hilton.

Saw the Atlanta Radio Theater Company.

I don't remember what happened next, because somehow I still only got 4 hours of sleep although I was not at any official events on Friday after ARTC.

Oh, yeah. I was supposed to see my sister, and so I was holding out waiting for her to show, but then, right about the time she was supposed to get there, they started closing down the hotel, so I missed the Babylon 5 screening because they wouldn't let me go there, and I txt-msg my sister and she decided not to come all the way down just to get turned down.

Saturday, I went to the consuite and worked for 7 hours. Then I went to the Blood Drive and donated blood. I went to the dragon*con store and got my t-shirt. I saw Ann and she invited me to go with her to a party later. I took a nap.

I woke up to find Charlie had already bought the stuff I wanted (Buffy and Girl Genius stuff). I went to see "The Last Unicorn" with Peter Beagle, but it was already filled up.

I got to the bar and found Asprin and Co. and had a drink with them before going to see a belly dancing demonstration. Then I went to a party with the girls I went to the belly dancing with, but I only stayed an hour, and then I went to sleep. I did manage to sneak in a few minutes with Wayne (by stalking him down in LARPing) before I crashed.

And got up too damned early and went to the consuite and worked almost 8 hours, but I'm not sure I should really get credit for that, because I was moving T o o D a m n e d S L O W . . .

Then after making tuna casserole, I went down to find out the Learning Center (where they were showing independent and short films) was closed, and Juliet Landau had canceled her appearance. So I went down to the writing/lit tracks.

I actually got to see Peter Beagle in the SciFi Lit track, and that was by far the best thing that had happened so far: the audience was actually chatting and joking with him and his business manager, and they read us some of the short-short stories from his new book "The Line Between" and he signed an autograph and his mgr. gave me an email address, and it was like the Convention I Had Actually Wanted To Be At All Along.

I actually got to see part of the Whose Line final in Regency V, but left to see the EFF film on how to Protect Your Rights. I realized, as Tony Scott stood up to MC Whose Line, that this was the reason I hadn't seen many of my friends: They were all WORKING.

I made a last pass after that, but didn't see Asprin, or, really, ANYONE I knew, so I went back to the hotel.

Then I Passed Right The Frick Out.

When I woke up, Charlie was there, and we were awake until 4:30.

Monday morning, we had to walk down the stairs to get our luggage out. Not unexpected for me, but it busted Charlie up. I left him at the consuite for the Breaking Down Belly Dancing class with Kira Lang, then took him to Hard Rock for lunch and shipped him home.

I returned to consuite and typed in all the hours forms.

End of log. Post mortem/apologia/critique to follow.
Like the hungover on New Year's Day, I'm casting about trying to figure out how to operate again. Thank God for a few habits that stayed in place: I could get food, the cat could get food.

Trying to pull my thoughts together on several levels, so here's another Boring List from the List-Making-Obsessed:

I. Infrastructure: Recharge the phone, Make the New Calendar

II. Housework: Slowly gearing up the routines again: Cleaned the cat box and making a grocery list. Need to do laundry, and change the sheets once the major stuff is caught up. Lots of ongoing to pick back up.

III. Dragon*Con recovery: Unpacking (back to laundry and recharging the phone), writing the post-mortem and getting a-hold of people who can help me find out about what changes can be made and adapted to that.

A brief list of Dragon*Con topics (mostly revolving around crowd control) include, shutting down tracks, bars, cattle chutes, law enforcement agencies, vendors, vagrants, Hotel Vs. Hotel Vs. Hotel...

But also, personally, friends, Joe, and the ConSuite. Maybe more.

IV. Charlie's teeth: They're falling apart, and he has surgery Thursday, so all the basics have to be done today and tomorrow, so I can be up and running smoothly while he is unconscious/drugged for several days.

... and by that time, we'll be in the middle of the demands of September, trying to get them wrapped up before Netherworld descends.

Did I mention this was the busy season? Did I listen to me when I said that?
