Re: Medical transcription class?

I'm working with Career Step, whose certification is accepted by various MT companies, including MedQuist (which Damien works for). After a slow start (I got accepted the same day Charlie and I started dating) I've built up momentum to a couple-or-three hours a day, and it seems to be going well.

The program (on the Internet) builds from the basics to more complex topics, from basic medical word roots to anatomy to specialties. So you're using what you learned as the basis for the next thing. The exercises are relatively small chunks, so it's easy to jump in for just a few minutes, and that adds up! I review by going back to the quizzes periodically and noting if I have missed or forgotten anything, which I'm putting in a file for my midterm review.

After the midterm, I'll be actually transcribing recordings, and then I guess I'll know if I'm really cut out for the work, and start looking into applying for jobs.

Yeah, I want to do it for (I suspect) most of the reasons you do: no more long commutes, expensive business wardrobe, or car expenses. More time to spend with family and on my own turf.

And I passed the message on to Charlie. I'm also twisting his arm on this subject, so we'll see what we work out.
