Why don't people understand that it's just a complex survival mechanism? Throw out the ones that don't work, use the ones that do. There isn't bad or good except in survivability.
That's why this is the Information Age: because we do not transmit information solely by genes but genetic instinct has added faster, more adaptable mechanisms.... such as the daily newspaper. There is evidence that the more we challenge our minds to keep up with it, the more pliable and useful they remain in our old age.
But it does get tiring, keeping up with what's going on, making constant choices about what to remember and what not to. Information the goal, media the transmittal, attention the receiver. Attention is now the bottle neck -- we have plenty of information and ways to convey it.
I think someone has already written a book about the economics of attention. So that means money is another means of transmission : survivability comes with money, so the transfer of money is a transfer of very flexible adaptability.
So, adaptability is the trait that makes man dominant on Earth.

I don't think I want to hate anyone else. But I'm not sure I can avoid it.

You know, I was really out of it when I wrote that. I don't know what I was really thinking... I jot things down trying to capture something, and then it's just gone...
Mostly I hate it when people get insulted before I actually get to deliver my bon mots, my piece de resistance, my coup de grace...
You know it's going to be a day when French gets in on the first hour.
