I dreamed that I was going to run away, that I was going to escape into a beautiful place; you just had to say the right thing and go right through, like getting to platform 9 3/4 the wall would just disappear. But the Matrix guys didn't want to let me, and I ended up going up and down a lot of stairwells in skyscrapers because of it. I had vacated my apartment, so when the delays happened, I had to sneak into someone else's apartment. Which was weird, because I just climbed in through the balcony and the balcony door opened to let me in. No one seemed surprised that I was there. Apparently all these apartments are so similar they couldn't tell it wasn't mine.
My mother forgot how to get to the escape place because she forgot where she put the directions. Turned out she tucked them into the sun visor of her car, and so we camped out and waited for her to get there, and then I saw Don, whom I have not seen in forever. I'm convinced we all come back eventually.
So, I never end up getting to this place, instead I end up having to stand in for someone else's shift at this convenience store I have never been to before, on the edge of a desert, looking out over the mesas. Mark is also working there, but he keeps on being so late, I never see him. There is a new age store and a deep freezer full of ice cream in the basement.
Late at night, the Mafia mechanics all pull up to the pumps and wash their cars. No one else comes in the store at that time.
A small child is abandoned at the store by her mother, who is on too many drugs to remember where she put her. I am panicked because I keep trying to take care of the baby and it keeps disappearing. Sometimes it is a kitten, and it chases mice in the basement.
Later, I drive a long way into the desert, or at least I plan to. It looks much more romantic before I go.
