Everyone else has already had his say about the new "Pirates" by now, I'm a' reckon'. I don't know if I'll say anything new, but I've a mind to try my hand.

The thing on the top of my mind is to agree that the film suffers from Second-Film-itis. I did not know there was to be a third movie and to be left hanging on obvious and significant plot lines (in addition to the reasonably justifiable ending set-up) was definitely anti-climactic. I'm ok with nearly infinite serials. I love the Indiana Jones character, and particularly like the 'another in a series of adventures' feel to those movies, rather than a compulsion to a long and epic plot. I thought "Pirates" had the feel of that: a funny, bawdy (but not too bawdy) series with this exaggerated focal character. Making me think of Harlequin, but I'll save that for lit. class.

And then they go and muck it up with a continuing story line and a whole slew of ongoing characters (I know, [livejournal.com profile] theferrett liked that about it)...

I really haven't decided whether to reveal any spoilers, but I'm planning to just mostly go on and say what I'm thinking (and then put it behind a cut tag, so let's see where that happens...).

But other than the annoying ending thing, I really enjoyed it pretty thoroughly. )
