I always feel vaguely annoyed that they always contrast mind with emotion. I should not be such a cold fish, and remember to feel from time to time, follow my heart, they say. Why do they never say, you're really smart, but you need to remember the spiritual side of things and commune with God/nature? Why do they never say, Your analysis of the facts is very sharp, but don't forget to consider the feelings of others? I cry at movies, I take chances for great emotional experiences. I do the other stuff I mentioned, too. I just get tired of the "you're this, so your blind spot must be ~here~. When I was a kid, it was always, "Priscilla's real smart, but she doesn't have any real Common Sense."
Or "You know all this stuff from books, but you don't have the experience I have, so you don't understand." My father used that one with great alacrity throughout my childhood, then by the time I got to college, he was saying, "I don't have to stand out in front of a bus to know getting hit by a car will hurt. Why can you not learn from the experiences of others? Why do you always have to DO things?" Gee, Dad, I dunno....
Is this a sign of my upbringing?

I was hoping to be something really bizarre and perverse I had never heard of before. Maybe something that would inspire my work in the haunted house next year. I'm afraid if I asked to be put on a cross, I'm the only one who would be enjoying it. :)
