1. Would you say that you're good at keeping in touch with people?

*rubs back of neck self-consciously* I tend to judge myself by the people I care about more than I talk to... instead of by the dozens I do keep in touch with. I spent a childhood with few friends, and I'm greedy about keeping them.

2. Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why?

Depends on who it is. Most of the people I know now I met through friends of friends in person, or I met them on line, and I keep in touch with most of them through electronica. A new friend, I will tend to invite to 'chat,' while an old friend I'd rather see in person. Some of my friends are 'just Live Journal' friends just because. We aren't similar enough to share time-space in RL, we live too far away, our interests are too different.... but we 'know' each other as fellow journalers. Like going to the same school, or playing the same musical instrument.

3. Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it?

Yes. ICQ, Yahoo, MSN and AIM, all running on Trillian. Because my friends keep changing programs. It's on all the time my computer is, which is on 24/7 unless I'm upgrading or have an error (or the power goes off or Godzilla steps on the house, yeah, yeah, yeah....) I also check my email every 10 minutes, and have Hotmail, Yahoo and Palm mail, and my own domain, and god only knows what others. My cell phone gets text messaging. I pay all my bills online. I'm no longer sure if I'm geeky or typical, but I'm definitely wired.

If I had to guess, I would say the reason why is because my mother does not use the internet. Yet.

4. Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away?

Both. Most of them live far away, but not in the same far away. More of them live here than any other ~single~ place.

5. Are you an "out of sight, out of mind" person, or do you believe that "distance makes the heart grow fonder"?

I never think about it. Is that telling? I think we all maintain the amount of distance we want from people, any people, in our lives. We communicate just enough to keep them where we want them. My preference? "Keep your friends close, your enemies closer."
