I know, it's not morning anymore.

Last night I tried LimeWire for the first time.

Less than 12 hours later, someone had charged (or attempted to charge) $700 to my paypal account.

I shut down all my files that I had been sharing. I do not like to think of this. Everything seems wide open now.

Yes, all my financial files, and all the accounts I use regularly, IM, email, have had passwords changed.

I'm so naive sometimes, thinking people are not up at all hours wandering through my old documents....

Yeeek! That makes me scared!! I use LimeWire, but I have a small amount of files that are open to be shared. I should probably go through and dump those anyway at this point. I'm glad nothing really terrible actually happened, but boo hiss for interweb-scares!

Was it that there files shared that you didn't realize were shared?

Yup. They're unshared, and removed, and locked out of other users. Like, I had no idea, but I stupidly went to bed without shutting down.

'k, done.

Got an alternate suggestion for peeps who want file sharing? I'll pay a reasonable amount for it.

Yes. Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com). Open source, so no spy-ware or ad-ware. I've used it for years and loves it.

Yikes! That's another good reason to keep being a worthless leech like me. :)

Limewire not bad. Hackers and Phishers bad. Set LIMEWIRE to no share your files and let them phish elsewhere.

I'm not too sure what you installed LimeWire for, but Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php) is a good peer to peer file sharing site. It's not exactly like LimeWire in that the Azureus program doesn't search for files - you have to go to a torrent site like Isohunt (http://www.isohunt.com) to download a torrent, then open it up with Azureus, and BAM! Instant* download!

*instant-ity may vary depending on your connection speed.
