I went to bed early, for me, at the kids' house by 11:15, asleep before midnight, woke up at 7 by the alarm clock, and hated it, dragged around the house like a dead thing.

Dropped Jonathan off at school at 7:50, both of us tired, him with a ziploc stuffed fat with Goldfish. He was wearing shorts, it was so warm. It wasn't raining, but so foggy I needed the windshield wipers on to see anyway.

After spending over $40 and having no luck, I am doing something totally insane: I have put my leather coat and silk jacket in the washing machine. The cat decided to pee in them. (Toby? BB? I don't know. My cats are neurotic.) The dry cleaners (three of them so far) said they could do nothing. So I loaded them up with Febreze, upholstery cleaner and special pet-stain remover and put them in the washing machine. I can't wear them like they are, so if they get ruined, I haven't really lost anything.

I have gotten most of my clothes over to Becky's house, so I am going to spend an hour or so packing up all my makeup and toiletries. Hopefully I will sort them out tonight after the kids go to bed. I think by the end of this week I may be able to see the floor in my room again.... and, positive thinker that I am, all I will see is the need to sweep and mop.

Ok teeny word of warning (from the been there done that dept) -- if you use upholstery cleaner on clothing wash it again or at least rinse it.

You see, you just might break out in the hives from hell from the harshness.

I had a comforter that got peed on by my dog. So I put this upholstery cleaner 'kills every wretched smell' stuff in the wash, and my husband (who barely gets colds) broke out into hives AND had his throat close up and had to go to the ER after sleeping under it. (I just got kind of itchy.)

Febreeze is good, and hate to sound like an infomercial but that oxy clean stuff is really good at neutralizing smells. (I have a cat, and children, unfortunately I am well versed in the smell department.)

And Ive washed silk before (just dont use hot, the thread used to sew it together is often cotton and then it causes seams to pucker), as well as washing leather. Yes. Leather jacket (looked nice and broken in) and may God strike me down and heaven forbid my mother find out, a Coach bag. It was not very shiny, it really was like a saddle finish, so it actually came out ok. (something spilled inside it that was sticky and gooey, so its not like I could have saddle soaped it or something)

I am getting so domesticated. Could you kindly shoot me? Please?

And I love the new icon -- is that a more recent picture? The lighter hair?

Wow. You really do have the scoop. Thanks. The two coats, looking none the worse for wear, are now hanging up to dry, but I will put them through another cold rinse at your recommendation.

I am particularly sensitive to detergent residues, and cannot use all kinds of stuff, so that's particularly helpful for me!

And yes, that is a ~very~ recent picture, and I hope there will be more soon! Glad you like it!

I suppose I will probably get some leather conditioner to apply to the coat now that it's been through heck... but the smells seem to be gone, so I am happy.
